The Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD), which is now known as the Ministry of Education, Government of India (GOI), has established National Testing Agency (NTA) as an independent, autonomous and self-sustained premier testing organization under Society Registration Act 1860 for conducting efficient, transparent and international standards tests in order to assess the competency of candidates for admissions to premier higher education institutions.
The Joint Entrance Examination (JEE Main) comprises of two papers. The Paper1 is conducted for admission to Undergraduate Engineering Programs (B.E/B. Tech) at NITs, IIITs, other Centrally Funded Technical Institutions (CFTIs), Institutions/Universities funded/recognized by participating State Governments, as well as an eligibility test for JEE (Advanced), which is conducted for admission to IITs.

JEE Main 2022 Paper 1 is conducted for B.E./B.Tech admissions at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. JEE Main Paper 1 Syllabus is based on topics from Class XI and XII Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics. JEE Main B.E./B.Tech Question Paper consists of 90 questions of which candidates have to answer 77 questions carrying 300 marks. +4 marks are awarded for each correct answer while each incorrect answer leads to a negative marking of -1.
NTA will conduct JEE Main 2022 Paper 1 in two phases. Phase 1 is scheduled from June 20 to 29 and Phase 2 from July 21 to 30. JEE Main 2022 Paper 2 is conducted for admission to B.Arch and B.Planning programs at NITs, IIITs and GFTIs. The exam is held separately as JEE Main Paper 2A for B.Arch and JEE Main Paper 2B for B.Planning. JEE B.Arch paperconsists of three sections- mathematics, aptitude and drawing and JEE B.Planning paper also consists of three sections- mathematics, aptitude and planning.
JEE Main B.Arch paper is conducted online (for mathematics and aptitude) and offline (for the drawing section). JEE Main B.Arch Question Paper consists of 82 questions of which candidates have to answer 77 questions worth 400 marks. Meanwhile, JEE Main B.Planning paper is conducted as a computer-based test. JEE B.Planning question paper consists of 105 questions of which candidates have to answer 100 questions carrying 400 marks.
